Australian Maritime History

Early Australian Maritime History and the history of the Royal Navy are naturally entwined, but where there is a voyage to Australia , then I will treat it as Australian Maritime History. The parts that I have already covered in this section are extremely varied and not collated very well at this stage but with more research, then some order will hopefully emerge from the fermenting bilge water of my brain. What I have done so far is to describe some of the tall ships that I have seen , the Duyfken and the James Craig, and tell the story of the sloop Norfolk which ran aground a couple of miles from my place by escaped convicts in Newcastle Harbour. The Newcastle Maritime Festival is written about and also the voyages by Nicolas Baudin and Matthew Flinders to circumnavigate Australia and map it and claim as much land for their respective countries as they could.

I am at present reading about Cook's Endeavour(or was it Joseph Bank's?). And intend to write about some of the specifications of that noble vessel and the voyage by Cook in the Endeavour. And i will be going to the National Maritime Museum where the Endeavour is moored and will certainly slaver about all that. And my research into John Shortland. And am presently reading about the Second Fleet - the lady Julian and the HMS Guardian. So that is plenty to do so i better shut up and keep working. Later - I have done the Lady Juliana page and a heap of other stuff such as the voyages of the red jacket, Sir Robert Seppings, Tasmanian vessels trading up and down the coast, The Chicora , and I have finished the first page of the Endeavour simply describing the ship and her fittings and the crew. Probably more to come on the voyages.
